A couple of weeks ago, we were out fishing this pin, throwing the JC Jig Lurelogics slow-pitch jig and targeting whatever we could hook. Josh hooked into this absolute beast, and we had no clue what it was! At first, we thought it was a massive snapper, but it just kept pulling and refusing to give up. It wasn’t even fighting like a typical kingy, which made it even more interesting!
After around half an hour battling this thing on light tackle, with just 20lb braid and 20lb Berkley Vanish leader, Josh finally got it alongside the boat. I grabbed the gaff and got a good shot on the head, and just like that, we had an absolute horse of a kingfish in the boat!
Weighing in at a solid 18kg, this kingy put the gear through its paces. It was charging through the weed and reef, putting that 20lb Berkley Vanish leader through absolute hell, but somehow it held strong and got the job done! The Vanish took the damage like a champ, and the Lurelogics slow-pitch jig did the business once again.
This one was definitely coming home for a feed, as we hadn’t had kingfish for a while! Massive effort from Josh as always, landing another absolute beast on the light gear. What a solid kingy! Mean fish, good feed, and an even better fight. Bring on the summer kingies! YEAH BOY! 🔥🎣
